About The Lutheran Church of the Holy Spirit

The Lutheran Church of the Holy Spirit is a dynamic church located in Manahawkin, New Jersey. Our beliefs are based on the Bible and centered on Jesus Christ. Our mission is very simple: to lead people to honor and glorify Jesus Christ. That means we’re not about a building or some complicated religious system, but about helping people from all backgrounds discover the joy that comes from knowing and serving Jesus Christ.

We invite you to come and check us out this weekend at one of our worship services. We know that going to a new church can be intimidating, so we try to do things in a way that you’ll feel welcome and not like an outsider. When you come, you can participate or just sit back and observe. You’ll discover a warm atmosphere, practical teaching from God's Word, and lots of friendly people pursuing God together. And with childcare and classes for all ages, your family will love it too!

God made a promise in the Bible that if we seek after Him, we’ll find Him. You are a valued part of God’s creation, and His deep desire is to be in a relationship with you. So come and join us as we pursue God together!

 Family

At The Lutheran Church of the Holy Spirit, we value the family, and we believe church should be a place for people of all ages. Every Sunday we provide children's ministries alongside our regular services, which provides an age-appropriate environment for kids to encounter Christ.

 Leadership

The Lutheran Church of the Holy Spirit is guided by a leadership team that provides overall direction and watches over the spiritual needs of the church. Our new pastor, Dan Marrone, along with other leadership, provides sound, practical, biblical teaching at each worship service. They have received theological and pastoral training and are equipped to share God's love with our local community. The Lutheran Church of the Holy Spirit is blessed to have a leadership team who are truly dedicated to Christ and accomplishing His will.

WELCOME PASTOR DAN MARRONE

About Me:

I began discerning a call to ordained ministry as an undergraduate at Rutgers University. At the time, I was preparing to become an English teacher, hoping to share my love of reading and writing. As I sensed the call of the Holy Spirit more clearly, my path shifted toward deeper study of theology and Scripture. I graduated with a B.A. in English and a minor in Religious Studies and then enrolled in the Master of Divinity (MDiv) program at Princeton Theological Seminary.

During seminary, I served as a field-education student at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Princeton and joined the New Jersey Synod’s pastoral supply list, where I began leading worship at congregations across the state, a ministry I continue almost weekly. I also completed a 400-hour clinical pastoral education internship as a hospital chaplain at Riverview Medical Center in Red Bank, primarily serving patients and families in the ICU, hospice, and oncology units.

That experience of sitting with people in moments of crisis, grief, and uncertainty was deeply transformational, and led me to focus my studies on practical theology: the ways our Christian faith takes shape in everyday life. I received my MDiv with a concentration in Lutheran Studies in 2023 and was honored with the Robert P. Goodlin Award for Clinical Pastoral Work. After graduating, I served for a year as vicar and youth director at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Glenside, Pennsylvania.

Theologically, my ministry centers on two core convictions you’ll hear reflected in my preaching and teaching. First is the Gospel itself: the good news of God’s unconditional love, grace, and forgiveness given freely to us in Christ. Second is a deep attention to how faith intersects with daily life, trusting that even our most ordinary moments can be filled with spiritual depth and meaning.

I am especially passionate about teaching and have led many Bible studies and classes on Scripture, Lutheran theology, church history, and related topics.

Outside of ministry, I’m a devoted hockey fan (go Islanders!), an avid reader, and deeply interested in art, film, and music. I have three brothers -- the oldest is a software engineer at a big tech firm, my younger brother just started medical school at Rowan University, and the youngest is in his last year of high school, figuring out where he wants to go to college.

And most important of all, I’m engaged to be married to my wonderful fiancée, Kerri.
